In this article, the author does an excellent job of depicting the life of R&B and Hip Hop singer Miguel. The author starts off by stating why Miguel became Miguel and why we attracts so many different listeners. Specifically saying Miguel "made a career out of finding creative ways to render small pleasures in sound." The author also goes on to write about how Miguel is different from many of his other successors and his other competitors in the music business. Insinuating that while others write songs about sex and drugs as if the two are a conquest to life, Miguel writes about sex and drugs with a calm and self controlled demeanor. The purpose of this article was to highlight Miguel's come up and what he went through trying to succeed in this music business. Miguel knew he didn't want to be like everyone else, he just didn't know how to make that happen. The author mentions a low point in Miguel's career when talking about the law dispute between his record label and his production company in 2010 that kept his R&B album "All I Want Is You", on the shelf for 2 years. The author appeals to logos in this instance stating a fact that many were not aware of in Miguel's career. The author later in the article appeals to ethos when stating the revival of Miguel's career and name dropping famous rapper and singer Travis Scott that was featured in one of Miguel's songs. By the author doing this, he appeals to the readers’ ethos by making Miguel more credible to someone who might not have heard about Miguel but know about Travis Scott, which then makes the article more credible. The author uses informal diction and monosyllabic words. Using this diction, the author creates a calm and laid back atmosphere reflecting the calm and laid back music Miguel produces. The author's tone is earnest and exuberant throughout the article as the author praises the come up of Miguel. The author's goal of writing about the story of Miguel and his downfalls and upbringings in the music business. The author Hua Hsu successfully does this with his clear emotional attachment to the story of Miguel and his informal and earnest tone.
