In this article, the author does an excellent job of depicting the come up of rapper Cardi B. The author starts off by stating her previous occupations and her most famous quotes that made her famous. She also goes on to write about how Cardi loved her previous job as an exotic dancer. The purpose of this article was to highlight how Cardi B outshined many well-known stars by taking their spots on the charts with one song, "Bodak Yellow". Cardi B became the first solo female rap act to top the Billboard charts since Lauryn Hill, in 1998. The author includes that fact to appeal to a reader's logos. Many are skeptical of the born and raised Bronx rapper, but by including facts like that and others, it makes it hard for the cincis to undermine her. The author also makes sure to appeal to ethos by name dropping big time stars such as Taylor Swift, Drake, and even one of today's newest rapper's xxxTentacion. The author including these names makes her article more credible because she is inevitably making Cardi more credible. The author uses informal diction and monosyllabic words. Using this diction, the author creates a casual atmosphere and is easily able to praise the work of Cardi B. The author's tone is reverent and solemn. She makes sure to be respectful to Cardi and her work throughout the piece which can bring any audience to the conclusion that she has a strong liking of Cardi and respects her work. I believe the author's overall goal for this piece was to praise Cardi B for trumping many big stars with one song and to tell her story. The author Doreen St. Félix successfully does this with her informal tone, and supportive emotional attachment to the piece.
